Just one day after playing in front of a sold out Verizon Arena in Little Rock, Drew Erwin returned to Memphis to play in a familiar setting at Midtown Crossing Grill for the 9th annual Rock for Love event benefitting the Church Health Center.

Erwin sported an acoustic guitar, and was accompanied by Ben Callicott on the electric guitar. The two opened with an original song, “Behind Closed Doors.” As the night kicked off, the small, quaint setting that is Midtown Crossing Grill became a large, captivating place where everyone could feel at home and stand together for the sake of music.

After performing a second original and taking it back to his first song ever written, Erwin played “Let It Go” by James Bay. You could quickly connect the dots to his source of inspiration. While Erwin wooed the crowd, Callicott bent both guitar strings and heart strings as each note he played seemed to touch everyone in the room.

Erwin shook the house with originals like “Invisible” and “When Did I Go Missing” before finishing his set with two covers; “Gold on the Ceiling” by The Black Keys, and “Scars” by James Bay. Erwin mentioned that “Scars” was the song he chose to play when he opened up for Kelly Clarkson. After his remarkable display of vocal flexibility, we all knew why.

Friday night was the time and Midtown Crossing Grill was the place. Drew Erwin put on quite the show and left the crowd wanting more. All in all, the Rock for Love fest did not disappoint and was a great experience for not only the bands involved, but for the city of Memphis.
